My answer to the research

I will answer my research question by using letter stamping and in my personal project I explored with clay and putty to get the realistic look of the different biscuits and getting the texture of biscuits, but what I found out is that putty was the best material to use it gave the right colour of biscuits and texture. I also incorporate silver work to gave it durability. so what I want to find more is different materials to use in order to get textures and colours.

My research
question - baking in jewellery

My research question is how baking can be incorporated into jewellery and realistic .I really enjoyed my exploring and I developed interest, because baking is one of my favorite things to do. from what I have explored texture and colour was the main thing for my research and finding the right materials and it was very interesting that I could find materials that works well like putty. I want to contribute by finding more interesting ways of  using other materials to get texture and colour and I want to research more about what I have explored so I can show the world how can we transform something that you love into a piece of jewellery to wear everyday and I had fun exploring.

Development of design

My inspiration comes from the Guinea feathers and i started playing around with forms and texture of the Guinea bird feathers, I ended up being interested in the Guinea's body shape too and i tiered coming up with different forms.the texture i decided to use was made with a dot puncher which i found an interesting pattern that almost looks like the doted Guinea feather.

Clay element forms and arrangements

This is the element I choose from my
 shweshwe fabric and used
 it tomake my forms
with clay flat and 3D version.

shweshwe fabric I choose
 my element form.

The left hand arrangement it balanced and it forms a pattern, center arrangement feels more like forming a shape and the right hand arrangement it forming the 3D and flat forms are forming a contract in the arrangement.

Experience - walk to the market

Walking around the market really opened my eye to different ideas in terms of references and that there is a lot you can develop from other peoples creations and beliefs. This is the Shweshwe fabric my group and I choose at the fabric shop by market, because of the different patterning.

Perceptions attached to Jewellery

I choose Alexis Kirk, his work is in addition to spiritual, occult and ethnic influences, he used materials such as exotic woods, pewter and plastic alongside more traditional metals. Kirk's work was always designed on a large scale, the designer favored sculptural designs in striking shapes, bold and materials which made a statement (over sized jewellery gets favor).

Contemporary jewellery

The challenges are that this brooch is lighter, less metal use and it made out of silver only. Alexis Kirk thinks that jewellery such be bold and make a statement, so his challenging that jewellery can be large and use different materials and still be worn. I choose Alexis Kirk, because I enjoy looking at big bold jewellery and it makes a piece look expensive.

 it been blacked .

Texture made with shweshwe fabric,
 rolled through the roller.

 Design development process

Finding interesting shapes from my reference and playing around
 with overlapping, repeating elements

Trying to come up with a more detailed and overlapped more element
to find a form to work with for the final piece.

Decided to work with this element.

Fingering out my elements using paper
 and how to manufacture it.

Practicing how to fold metal.

CIRCUS INSPIRED

I choose body painting, because of how interesting is the forms and shape the body can create and the patterns that forms movement, this picture show the elements and principals of design such as lines, contract, movement, form and unity that what made me interested.

My Greebles final piece

The neck piece helps Bubble heart to control the powers, not to over power her when
she's connecting to someones thoughts and heart. I decided to use the Shweshwe fabric to give my piece a traditional feel, because she got the gift from her Ancestors.

My Greebles inspired story

There was a girl born blind called Bubbly heart and everywhere she shared her kind heart people always seemed to have a smile on they faces, when she was 11 yrs she fell very ill and was sent to Doctors, traveled from Hospital to Hospital and seen every kind of Specialist but they couldn’t find anything wrong with her. She spent days which became weeks and turned in to months, with each day passing Bubbly heart gets more ill until one day when all modern medicine failed.

Her parents decided to take her to a Traditional healer and they discovered that Bubbly heart had a gift that her Ancestors have bestowed upon her the gift to read hearts and see through the vial of life and death, a bright light shines from the eyes of the child and this was the sign that she had a gift. All that was required is the child to accept this gift and start using it to bring peace to the world of good and evil, she also needed a chest piece to connect with and controlling the powers.

She uses the chest piece to read, see other people’s heart and thoughts. Her personality is bubbly and strong, but whenever she feels the connection with someone’s heart or thoughts she becomes soft at the same time  her powers gets stronger and more powerful that when her chest piece helps her not to be cover powered by her powerful gift also.

forms
Finding my form, I used clay to play with so I can play with different shape that a  kiwi fruit forms.

I decided to use the oval shape that are in different sizes to see if I can come up with something interesting for my final design.
Started  experimenting with the shape in  metal and how the texture will be
included within the shape.

Using lace and granulation to found texture

Using lace materials was my best experience and a interesting way to get texture, it come out very detailed and textured then the rest of  the experimentation's.

  Aluminium plates                           Laces

This is anther texture that i came up with using gliding metal, i made balls that i soiled on a plate and  rolled it throw the roller.

Trying to get texture out off paper cutouts patterns

I printed 3 kiwi fruit pictures and  started cutting out the negative spaces to form patterns

using aluminium plate I rolled the paper pattern throw the roller.

These are the texture I end up getting, which i really didn't like.

Cotton fabrics texture

In order to found a texture I need for my final design, I had to experiment with different cotton materials.

cotton wool, cotton fabrics and shoe lace material,
used gliding metal plates to roll the fabrics throw the roller to get the texture on the plates.
